Living in a fast-paced city takes its toll on our bodies and emotions. Two of the main keys to managing stress and mood are deep, relaxed breathing and a positive mental attitude. In this highly practical experiential class we will learn powerfully effective breathing and cognitive techniques to help us manage stress and reduce anxiety. The material covered will include: understanding the mechanics of breathing; specific breathing techniques that can either boost or relax our mood as needed; how to develop a daily breathing practice; and the invaluable technique of practiced paced breathing (PPB), which leads to lower stress hormone levels and a more positive mood, reduces incidents of hyperventilation and panic attacks, and is also associated with better digestion, lower blood pressure and an enhanced immune system. We will also learn specific cognitive behavioral strategies that can help us combat stressful styles of thinking.

Beginning Feb 13, 2012. The workshop will be Monday evenings from 8pm to 10pm. Its encouraged that you attend all 4 weeks but not necessary.

Visit the Open Center for more info.
